Foreword

Aviko connects people, cultures and tastes to tables all over the world. As a global player we have a connecting role throughout the entire chain: ‘from farm to fork’. In our aim of safeguarding a future-proof and sustainable cultivation and business, we believe in the strength of connecting.

Foreword

We are committed and work closely with all of our stakeholders. With our ambition ‘Connecting people today, a better world tomorrow’ we participate in discussions about the challenges facing the world today as a means of contributing to a better world for tomorrow.

We define a better world as a world that is plant-based, circular and transparent. We assume a leading role in sustainability by actively contributing to a future-proof chain. In 2021 we recalibrated our sustainability strategy in order to further shape our goals and we are driven to have a positive impact throughout the entire chain.

“We define a better world as a world that is plant-based, circular and transparent.”

In retrospect, it is clear that we have made some great steps forward. Our cold store in Steenderen (the Netherlands) is BREEAM certified, as a result of which we are recognised throughout the world as a leader in sustainable real estate and it is with pride that we can say that our cold store is the most sustainable in the world. Furthermore, we have a first: an ultramodern Automated Guided Vehicle (AGV), a self-driving, fully electric truck is driving on our premises in Steenderen. This is unique in the world. Furthermore, we have switched over to green electricity at virtually all of our locations and we are innovating with plant-based alternatives, such as Potato Cheezz, a sustainable alternative to cheese for the pizza industry, as a snack or as a meat substitute.

“We assume a leading role in sustainability by actively contributing to a future-proof chain.”

Looking ahead, we are further disseminating our goals. For example, in 2022, in cooperation with our parent company, Cosun, we will start working on setting up pilot farms in which we will work closely with potato growers to increase the chain’s sustainability. We are following our further ‘greening’ path and are devoting efforts to further minimise CO2 emissions.

In addition, we continue to pursue the use of mono-plastics as a means of working towards packaging that is 100% recyclable. Furthermore, our new plant in Poperinge (Belgium) is slated to be opened in 2022, which promises to become one of the most efficient fries plants in the world. Finally, we will continue to connect people, cultures and tastes by bringing joy to tables throughout the entire world. On the basis of mutual trust and enjoyment we are working on a better world together. Today and tomorrow. Together and for everyone.
