Foreword

Aviko connects people, cultures and tastes to tables all over the world. As a global player we have a connecting role throughout the chain: ‘from farm to fork’. In our aim of safeguarding a future-proof and sustainable chain, we believe in the strength of connecting.

Foreword

We are committed and work closely with all of our stakeholders. We believe that the only way in which we can achieve our mission of bringing joy to tables is when there is joy for everyone and for all parties involved in the chain, today and tomorrow. We participate in discussions about the challenges facing the world today as a means of contributing to a better world for tomorrow.

We define a better world as a world that is increasingly more plant-based, circular and transparent. We assume a leading role in sustainability by actively contributing to a future-proof chain. After we recalibrated our sustainability strategy in 2021, we focused on its rollout in 2022 and continue to pursue our course in 2023.

“We define a better world as a world that is increasingly more plant-based, circular and transparent.”

Looking back, we have taken the first steps forward in relation to our recalibrated goals. The switch to the most sustainable palm oil for all of our plants in Europe, the opening of the most efficient plant in Poperinge (Belgium) with the most sustainable cold store as determined by BREEAM standards, the switch to 100% green electricity for the majority of our plants, the investment in an industrial electric boiler in Venray and a new heat pump in Warffum, both in the Netherlands, are good examples. In addition, we have identified the CO2 emissions in the complete chain, which enables us to take measures to minimise them. We are also focused on the well-being of people. For example, we have rolled out our Human Rights policy, we focus on people with a distance from the job market and closely work together with food banks.

“We assume a leading role in sustainability by actively contributing to a future-proof chain.”

Looking ahead, we continue to advance our goals. For example, in 2023, in cooperation with our parent company, Cosun, we will open inspiration farms and start up sustainability agro pilots in which we will work closely with potato growers to further increase the chain’s sustainability. We are following our further ‘greening’ path and are devoting efforts to formulating CO2 emission reduction targets for the entire chain. For example, the second fully electric truck will soon be driving. In addition, the water and waste reduction programmes will be further implemented. Furthermore, our product range of plant-based alternatives will be further expanded.

“We are following our further ‘greening’ path and are devoting efforts to formulating CO2 emission reduction targets for the entire chain.”

Finally, we will continue to connect people, cultures and tastes by bringing joy to tables all over the world. On the basis of mutual trust and enjoyment we are learning and growing, thus enabling us to contribute to a better world together. Today and tomorrow. Together and for everyone.
